Borderlands 4 Vault Key Locations: Finding Every Fragment on Kairos

Borderlands 4 Vault Key Locations: Finding Every Fragment on Kairos

So, you’re standing in the middle of a dusty wasteland on Kairos, looking at a massive, locked door that clearly hides something shiny. We’ve all been there. If you’ve been playing Borderlands 4 since it dropped back in September 2025, you know the routine: Vaults are the heart of the game, but Gearbox decided to make us work for it this time. You can’t just walk up to a Vault and kick the door down. You need a key. Specifically, you need to find three separate fragments for each region to assemble that key.

It's kinda tedious if you’re just wandering aimlessly, but honestly, once you know where to look, it’s not too bad. The game uses this new "Trace" system that pulses your UI when you’re close, but let’s be real—sometimes that 3D map is more confusing than helpful. Here is the actual, no-fluff breakdown of where these things are hidden across the three main regions: The Fadefields, Carcadia Burn, and Terminus Range.

Hunting Fragments in The Fadefields

The Fadefields is where your journey starts. It’s lush, it’s green, and it’s crawling with "Order" enemies who really don't want you touching their stuff. To open the Vault of Inceptus, you’re looking for three pieces.

The first one is tucked away in the Coastal Bonescape. Look, if you’ve found the Stillshore point of interest, you’re basically there. Head to the southwest corner near the water. There’s a building with a fan on the back that spins way too slowly to actually cool anything down. The fragment is just sitting on a crate right underneath it. Easy.

Now, for the second one in The Howl, you’ll need to head northeast from "The Launchpad." You’re looking for a cave. It’s not a small cave either—it’s a massive overhang. Enter from the north side to avoid some of the Manglers. The fragment is sitting on a stone pedestal inside. If you see a bunch of glowing golden rocks, you’re getting warm.

Finally, there’s the Idolator’s Noose fragment. This one is the most annoying in the region because it’s hidden. Go to Rosemary’s Reserve. You’ll see a Propaganda Tower. Don’t just stand there looking at it; look southeast for a metal vent on a wall. You have to use your grapple to rip that sucker off. Once you’re inside the crawlspace, the fragment is tucked in a corner near a Marcus Bobblehead.

Where to Find the Carcadia Burn Vault Key Fragments

Carcadia Burn is a massive shift from the greenery of the fields. It’s hot, it’s rocky, and the Vault of Radix is waiting for you near a pond in the Gridstone of the Worthy. But first, the fragments.

  • Lopside: This is arguably the easiest one in the whole game. Find the "One Pumper" gas station. Use your grapple to get onto the roof. The fragment is sitting right there on a dining table. Why is there a dining table on a gas station roof? Don’t ask questions, just take the loot.
  • Tonnage Peel: You can’t miss the massive shipwreck known as the Wreck of the Last Great Hope. Go to the southeast side of the wreck. Look for a southern entrance near some dead trees. Once you’re inside, find the vent on the floor with a blinking red light. Rip it open and drop down.
  • Ruined Sumplands: Head to the beach northeast of Hull’s Handbasket. There’s a small pool of water at the base of a hill. The fragment is sitting on top of a stalagmite/pedestal thing right by the water’s edge.

The Tricky Spots in Terminus Range

The Terminus Range is where the verticality of Borderlands 4 really starts to hurt. You’ll be using your glide pack a lot here. The Vault of Origo is the prize, but the fragments are scattered across some high-altitude spots.

The Cuspid Climb fragment is the one that trips everyone up. You actually have to glide to get it. Go about 150 meters west of the icon on your map, up on the high cliffs. You’ll see a rocky bridge sticking out from the mountain near a waterfall. You have to jump and glide over to that bridge. Once you land, follow the cave path upward to find it on a corpse.

In The Low Leys, head toward "The Pit." Look for the "Curly White Tree"—it’s a very distinct dead-looking tree with a smaller purple-leafed tree underneath it. Climb the rocks next to it. You’ll eventually hit a grapple point that pulls you up to a higher ledge where the fragment is waiting.

The final piece is in Windspear, inside the Vestal Garrison. This is a straight-up combat zone. Fight your way into the main building and look for an office on the first floor (to the left as you enter). The fragment is sitting on a desk surrounded by old computers.

Why You Should Do This Immediately

I know, I know—you want to finish the main story. But here’s the thing: clearing these vaults isn't just about the boss loot (though the Vault Guardians do drop legendary class mods for Vex, Rafa, Amon, and Harlowe). Each vault you clear gives you a permanent upgrade to your glide pack.

If you clear all three, your glide pack recharges twice as fast and consumes 50% less charge. It completely changes how you move. By the time you reach the endgame "Ultimate Vault Hunter" ranks, you’ll need that mobility just to survive the Centripetal modifiers that suck you into black holes.

Pro-Tip for Second Playthroughs

If you’re starting a new character, you don’t actually have to activate the Order Silos to see the fragments on your map. If you remember these locations (or have this list open), you can just drive to the spot and pick them up. The Silos just give you the "Trace" UI, but the fragments exist in the world the moment you step onto the planet.

Once you’ve got all three fragments for a region, a large yellow circle appears on your map. Head to the center, look for the stone lever that pops out of the ground, and shove that key in. The purple portal will take you to the trial. Defeat the three arenas, kill the Guardian, and grab your permanent power-up.

If you’re looking to max out your build before the Mad Ellie and the Vault of the Damned DLC drops later this quarter, getting these three vaults out of the way is the first thing on your to-do list. Just make sure you bring a solid shock weapon for the shielded Order guards, and you'll be fine.
